This week the 23rd IMISCOE (International Migration Research Network) Annual conference took place in Girona on the topic “Strengthening Migration Studies through Community Engagement”.
IMISCOE is the largest interdisciplinary network of scholars in the field of migration and involved over 1500 scholars from all around the world. Since 2022, IMISCOE is coordinated by Daniela Vintila and Jean-Michel Lafleur at the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM) at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Liège. The research network currently consists of 75 research institutes from different countries around the world and from various disciplines including sociology, political science, anthropology, economics, law, demography, public administration, geography and history.
The IMISCOE Network office is also composed by Angeliki Konstantinidou (Senior Network Officer), Carole Wenger (Network and Communication Officer), Marine Maréchal (Finance Officer), and Valkyria Dantas Rattmann (Network and Communication assistant).
The conference theme this year reflects IMISCOE’s commitment to fostering critical and reflexive dialogue on how knowledge about migration is produced, conceptualized, and circulated around the world, and whose voices are heard in these processes. It resonates particularly well with our mission at CEDEM, FASS and Uliège.
Recently, the IMISCOE Board of Directors entrusted CEDEM–ULiège with a second mandate to coordinate the network. This new term will run from 2026 to 2030.

Cette semaine s’est tenue à Gérone la 23ᵉ conférence annuelle d’IMISCOE (International Migration Research Network), consacrée au thème « Strengthening Migration Studies through Community Engagement ».
IMISCOE est le plus grand réseau interdisciplinaire de chercheurs et chercheuses dans le domaine des migrations, réunissant plus de 1 500 spécialistes du monde entier. Depuis 2022, le réseau est coordonné par Daniela Vintila et Jean-Michel Lafleur au sein du Centre d’Études de l’Ethnicité et des Migrations (CEDEM), à la Faculté des Sciences Sociales de l’Université de Liège. Le réseau IMISCOE regroupe actuellement 75 instituts de recherche issus de différents pays et couvrant de nombreuses disciplines, notamment la sociologie, la science politique, l’anthropologie, l’économie, le droit, la démographie, l’administration publique, la géographie et l’histoire.
L’équipe du bureau de coordination d’IMISCOE est également composée d’Angeliki Konstantinidou (Senior Network Officer), de Carole Wenger (Network and Communication Officer), de Marine Maréchal (Finance Officer) et de Valkyria Dantas Rattmann (Network and Communication Assistant).
Le thème de la conférence de cette année reflète l’engagement d’IMISCOE à promouvoir un dialogue critique et réflexif sur la manière dont les connaissances sur les migrations sont produites, conceptualisées et diffusées à travers le monde, ainsi que sur les voix qui sont entendues — ou non — dans ces processus. Cette réflexion fait particulièrement écho à la mission du CEDEM, de la Faculté des Sciences Sociales et de l’Université de Liège.
Récemment, le Conseil d’administration d’IMISCOE a renouvelé sa confiance envers le CEDEM–ULiège en lui confiant un second mandat de coordination du réseau. Ce nouveau mandat s’étendra de 2026 à 2030.
