MITIME is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network focusing on how time shapes migration, inequality, and urban life in post-industrial Europe. We train early-stage researchers in cutting-edge theory, methods and transferable skills, and innovate approaches to understand human mobility as a multi-directional, contingent and relational process.

The successful candidate will join CEDEM – Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies, which is part of the IRSS – Institute for Social Sciences Research at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Founded in 1995, CEDEM's mission is to conduct empirical and theoretical research on migration, ethnic relations and racism from a multidisciplinary perspective. Over the years, the centre has developed expertise in contemporary migration movements, the socio-political participation of migrants, migration policy, the intersection of migration and the arts, social cohesion, transnationalism, citizenship, and Islam in Europe. The centre is made up of a dynamic, international team of researchers who have received numerous research grants from Belgian and international institutions. Beyond research, CEDEM facilitates discussion between academics, policymakers, stakeholders, and the general public on contemporary issues related to migration by regularly organising conferences and workshops. CEDEM is also a founding member and the current coordinator of the International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion (IMISCOE) network, which is Europe’s largest network of migration studies academics. CEDEM also coordinates the Master's programme in Sociology with a focus on Migration and Ethnic Studies, which is part of the EUMIGS network.
